To meet the growing demand of management professionals, India started its first formalised management educational Programme in the late 1950s. Today, India has 600 institutes offering Programmes in management at undergraduate and postgraduate levels with prestigious institutes like the Indian Institute of management (IIMs).
All management colleges/institutes in India are recognised and regulated by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), a statutory body of Government of India.
Securing Admission
Admission to prestigious institutes like Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) is on the basis of a Common Admission Test (CAT) followed by interviews. Other institutions admit students on the basis of their own examinations or through combined entrance tests like MAT, XAT, etc., and group discussions/interviews. NRI students can take these tests.
International students/PIOs can seek direct admission in some of the private institutions by applying to Ed.CIL or directly to the concerned institutions.
Some management institutes also offer a one-year diploma course in specialisations like marketing, sales, industrial relations, personnel management, social welfare, material management, office and systems management, production management, etc. |
